The world's elite golfers gather in Oklahoma for the second Major tournament of 2022. Who will emerge the victor of the PGA Championship from the star-studded field and lift the trophy come Sunday?

Phil Mickelson's hiatus from the PGA Tour continues, and he will not be back to defend his title.

All fifty of the world's top-ranked golfers are in the field for Thursday's start around Southern Hills, with a host of past and present major winners featuring.

These are our selections that could win the second Major title of the year.

Scottie Scheffler

Scottie Scheffler comes into the second Major tournament of the year as the favourite for the victory, and deservedly so.

The American star has risen to great heights in 2022, winning the Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and capturing the first Major of his career at the Masters.

Other notable finishes include finishing T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T7 at the Genesis Invitational and T15 at the AT&T at the Byron Nelson last weekend.

The world's number one ranked golfer has played twice at the PGA Championship, placing T4 in 2020 and T8 last year.

Scheffler is the man to beat, as he has the best form of all the golfers that line up at Southern Hills and can challenge to win back-to-back Major tournaments come Sunday.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa would have been disappointed with his T26 finish at the RBC Heritage after his excellent fifth place at the recent 2022 Masters.

The world's number three ranked golfer has played well throughout the year, placing T5 at the Tournament of Champions, T18 at the Dubai Desert Classic, T2 at the Genesis Invitational and T9 at the WGC World Match Play.

The 25-year-old American won the 2020 PGA Championship, his first Major title in his career and placed a credible T8 in defence of his title in 2021.

Morikawa has the form to challenge for this second PGA Championship title in three years. Can he do it?

Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry has been knocking on the door to claim another title in his last two tournaments.

The Irishman played well at the Masters, placing T3 overall, and then he came in T3 at the recent RBC Heritage.

Before that, the 2019 Open Champion placed T12 at the Abu Dhabi Championship, T24 at the Dubai Desert Classic, T14 at the Saudi International, second at the Honda Classic, T13 at the Players Championship, T12 at the Valspar Championship and T35 WGC Dell Technologies Match Play.

The 35-year-old's last five PGA Championship results are excellent, finishing T48, T12, T8, T66 and T4 last year.

Lowry will start around the green of Southern Hills with confidence after his recent performances and offers an excellent each-way bet in Tulsa this weekend.

Cameron Young

Since he migrated from the Korn Ferry, Cameron Young has done well on the PGA Tour.

The American had results of MC, T40, T20 and T26 in his first four events of 2022 before placing T2 at the Genesis Invitational.

Young then placed T16 at the Honda Classic, T13 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, missed the cut at the Players Championship, finished T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and missed the cut at the Masters.

The 24-year-old then refound his touch, coming in T3 at the RBC Heritage and continued his excellent form when he placed T2 at the Wells Fargo Championship.

He will be making his debut at the PGA Championship.

Young has come close to winning his last two tournament starts and is the long-shot value bet this weekend. Can he cause a major upset and win the trophy?

Verdict

Scheffler has an excellent chance to capture the second Major of his career at Southern Hills this weekend.

Morikawa will fancy his chances to win his second PGA Championship in Oklahoma.

Lowry has the experience of winning a Major before and has the form to feature prominently.

Young has the current game to cause a big upset and is the long-shot pick for this weekend.
