A competitive field of the world's best golfers will contest the 85th edition of the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina this weekend. Who will win the last PGA Tour tournament of the regular season come Sunday?
Lucas Glover returns to defend his title after a two-stroke victory over Byeong-hun An and Russell Henley in 2023.
Past Major winners in the lineup include Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Webb Simpson and Gary Woodland.
These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.
Sungjae Im
Sungjae Im has been in excellent form in recent months, placing T12 at the RBC Heritage, victory at the Woori Financial Group Championship (Korean Tour), T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship, MC at the PGA Championship, T9 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and T8 at the Memorial Tournament.
He then MC at the U.S. Open and was T3 at the Travelers Championship, T12 at the John Deere Classic, T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open and T7 at the Open Championship.
Other notable performances achieved by Im this season include finishing T5 at the Sentry, T25 at the American Express and T18 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The Korean golfer has compiled an impressive record at the Wyndham Championship, placing T6 in 2019, T9 in 2020, T24 in 2021, T2 in 2022 and T14 in 2023.
Im will fancy his chances to win this third PGA Tour title as he has been ultra-consistent on the golf course lately.
Aaron Rai
Aaron Rai has featured on PGA Tour leaderboards regularly lately, placing T14 at the RBC Canadian Open, T19 at the U.S. Open, T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T7 at the John Deere Classic, T4 at the Genesis Scottish Open and T75 at the Open Championship.
Other noteworthy results achieved by Rai this year include finishing T19 at the Mexico Open, T23 at the Puerto Rico Open, T7 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T23 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and T4 at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
The 29-year-old Englishman has yet to make an impact at the Wyndham Championship, with results of T71 in 2022 and MC in 2023.
Rai has been knocking hard and has the form to emerge as the winner at the Sedgefield Country Club this weekend.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout
Christiaan Bezuidenhout was in great touch on the PGA Tour between March and June, finishing T13 at the Players Championship, T9 at the Valspar Championship, T25 at the Valero Texas Open, T28 at the RBC Heritage, T3 at the ISPS Handa Championship in Japan (DP World Tour), MC at the PGA Championship, T16 at the Wells Fargo Championship and 4th at the Memorial Tournament.
Bezuidenhout's form dipped after those results, finishing T32 at the U.S. Open, T23 at the Travelers Championship, W/D from the Genesis Scottish Open, and MC at the Open Championship before placing 16th at the Paris Olympics last weekend.
Other prominent performances achieved by Bezuidenhout this season include placing T9 at the Joburg Open, T17 at the Investec South African Open Championship, 3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, 2nd at the American Express, T20 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and T24 at the Genesis Invitational.
The 30-year-old South African has made three appearances at the Sedgefield Country Club, finishing T37 in 2020, T47 in 2022 and T51 in 2023.
Bezuidenhout has played well this season and can secure the Wyndham Championship if he can replicate the form he showed a few months ago.
Thomas Detry
Thomas Detry has been in solid form on the PGA Tour since the end of March, placing T17 at the Valspar Championship, T2 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T28 at the RBC Heritage, T8 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, MC at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson and T4 at the PGA Championship.
Detry has lacked consistency after those results, finishing T56 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T41 at the Memorial Tournament, T14 at the U.S. Open, T55 at the Travelers Championship, T26 at the Genesus Scottish Open and T9 at the recent Paris Olympics.
Additional highlights achieved by Detry this year include placing T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T4 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and T28 at the WM Phoenix Open.
The Belgian golfer finished 21st at the Wyndham Championship on debut last year.
Detry has been thereabouts this season and could surprise the others with a victory in North Carolina come Sunday.
Verdict
Rai can convert his excellent form into a winning one at the Wyndham Championship this weekend.
Bezuidenhout has been thereabouts this year and can make the frame this weekend.
Detry has performed well this season and offers excellent value in North Carolina this weekend.
