Race 2 – North Point (3)

Race 2 is lined up as a six-horse race when in fact it’s just a two-horse sprint over 1000m. North Point and Elusive Winter are in fine form and look likely to hit the mirror at the same time, so this is a tough call.

Candy Town is rated close by the bookmakers, but the mare has finished seven or higher in her last three races. Elusive Winter ran 2-1-1-3-2-1 before an 8th place in his last race.

North Point ran 1-1-5 before a 254-day break with change of owner and stable. The grey gelding then ran 2nd and 1st in his last two races, so I’m backing his hunger and fresher legs to take the tape.

Race 4 – Kamchatka (2)

Jockey: A Domeyer

Trainer: Willem Nel

With Cutie Patootie scratched we’re down to seven runners over the 1250m track. There’s a strong field with Tulip Fields, Kamchatka, Goodnessgraciousme and Miss World all in with a shout.

Miss World is the bookies’ pick despite running 5-6-5 in her last three runs. Goodnessgraciousme has been inconsistent (2-8-2-8), while Tulip Fields has been in strong form, running 3-1-5-1 before a 10th place finish in her last race.

I’m liking Kamchatka for the win. The 5-yr-old chestnut filly has been consistent in her last six races, placing 1-2-3-2-4-5. She ran powerfully her last race only to be outpaced in the final sprint to finish in fifth… but I liked her stride and her purpose. That performance came after a 53-day break, so I’m backing her team to have her in fine form for race day.

Race 6 – Dream Searcher (7)

Jockey: Craig Bantam

Trainer: Adam Marcus

Five horses could be in with a shout here in what should be a total thriller of a race, so be sure not to sit too close to the edge of your seat. Gin Palace and Rikkitkitavi are the hot favourites, but my heart is set on Dream Searcher to take this race.

Dream Searcher has placed 1-2-1-1 in big fields and the 6-yr-old bay mare looked full of fire in her last run. It looks set for an incredibly tight finish, though, so this should be a thrilling race to witness.

Race 8 – Theleia (5)

Jockey: A Domeyer

Trainer: Willem Nel

The feature race of the day is over 1400m for a R100,000 purse in the Bright Future Maiden Plate. Theleia looks a hot runner to pull away from the pack to take the tape. Homing Pigeon could offer some late resistance, but I’m seeing this as one-way traffic for the 4-yr-old bay filly.

Homing Pigeon looks strong on the back of 3-2-3-2-3 finishes in her last four races, but Theleia seems to have the legs to power home. She finished 2nd a fortnight ago after a 59-day break, while Homing Pigeon might be feeling the effects of eight races in seven months.
