Black Erica is highly rated at odds of 3.50 on the back of finishes of 1-3-5-3-1, while Ruby Rex is chalked up at 6.50 after running 2-4-2-1 in her last four races, but my attention is focussed on four-time winner Palace Gift.
The 6-yr-old bay gelding Palace Gift has had a stormer since his 106-day break mid-year in 2025, placing 4-1-1-5-1-4 in his six runs since then. His disappointing fourth place in his last race at Kenilworth 22 days ago was the result of a poor start, so I’m backing him to get back to winning ways here in Durbanville.

The favourites with the bookies are Beer With The Boys, Glenalmond and Double Dash, who are all slated at odds of 6.00. Glenalmond comes into the race on the back of a good win after a poor stretch of 8-10-8-5-5 finishes, so I’m worried about consistency.
Master Coiner has run 4-2-1 in his last three runs, with his win in his last run being a strong finish. I like his legs and lungs and I can see him maintaining this strong run of form in the months to come.
Race 7 – Take It As Red (3)

Trainer: Piet / Steyn
Scandalize (6.00) looks a strong option to back after running 4-3-2-4-1 in her last five runs and it’s going to be hard not to back her. Final Call is rated high with odds of 3.50 after runs of 4-3-2 before blowing out with a 10th place finish 71 days ago in her last race, so that’s a red flag at the gate for me.
The 4-yr-old bay filly Take It As Red got off to a storming start in her last race only to finish fourth for her third run in a row. She did finish well though and I like her stride and I think she will add some push to take this by a nose if she can hold her early pace.
Race 9 – Clark Griswold (7)

Six of the runners in the day’s last race have wins in their last five outings, but Clark Griswold pulled off a powerful win in his last run a month ago at Kenilworth showing impressive strength so he has earned my backing. Slightly inconsistent but his last five races have seen him place 3-1-5-6-1 which is strong enough on the back of his last strong win.
In Motion (34.00) was looking good after runs of 2-2-2-2-1, but a 103-day break yielded two seventh place finishes in his last two outings. Gold Dust (11.00) won his last race and Signor Dante (6.50) has run 4-3-3-9-1-3, but Clark Griswold remains my pick.
