New Zealand came back to earth with a thud after their successful tour of England, losing to the West Indies in the 1st ODI by seven wickets.

New Zealand got off to a strong start but struggled to up the run rate through their innings. Their top seven all made it into the 20s, but only Will Young (49 off 63) and Daryl Mitchell (65 off 73) kicked-on to more substantial scores.

The New Zealand bowlers did their best to contain the West Indies, but they needed to have set their hosts another 20-30 runs to have been competitive on that pitch.
