This is lining up as a battle of the Smiths vs the Greeffs, with trainers Dean Smith and Alan Greeff each running three horses in the fourth race of the day. It doesn’t look promising for the Smith fold, as the strongest two runners look to be Hoerikwaggo and Virgin River, both out of Alan Greeff's stables, with Juan Nel’s Hope Chest a good call to take the final spot on the podium.

Hoerikwaggo is a 5-yr-old bay filly with three wins and three second places in her last nine starts. She hit a second and a first placed finish in October last year before a 59-day rest. She came back firing with a 1st place followed by two 2nds, so she looks the ticket in my book.

Race 5 – Chocolate Bomb (2)

Trainer: Dean Smith

Race 5 needs one more horse and the field could form a rugby team! There’s no Bomb Squad, but I see Chocolate Bomb and One Too Many as the two likely to take it to the wire, with the rest of the field possibly a good length or two in their wake.

One Too Many has run 2-2-3-2-4 coming into this race day, but who would want to bet against the Chocolate Bomb, who has won three races on the bounce? The 6-yr-old bay gelding has been on fire since a 68-day break and I think he’ll have the legs to win for a fourth time.

Race 6 – Silent Trigger (9)

O Space O and World Choice both won their last races, but both have been a touch inconsistent. I’m throwing my hat into the ring behind Silent Trigger to take the win in a 13-strong field.

The bay gelding has 8 years of horse-sense to guide him, despite being winless since August 2023. He finished 3-7-5 before a 56-day break in the last two months of 2025, coming back with 3-4-3 finishes in double-digit fields, so I think he’s hot to take the tape.

Race 8 – Hollandia Bakkerij (5)

Jockey: Chad Little

Trainer: Juan Nel

The final race of the day is more Thriller in Manila than a scoop of vanilla, with four horses likely to break from the pack. In a field packed with four recent winners, I’m backing the 4-yr-old bay gelding Hollandia Bakkerij to snatch his 2nd career win.

Hollandia Bakkerij has been on a real heater since November, finishing 3-1-2-2-4 with some powerful finishing. Rototo is likely to be the closest challenger, despite having just one 2nd place in the 6-yr-old bay gelding’s recent list of races. He has looked strong in his last few races, so the hunger is there to fight for a possible win.
