The 5-year-old chestnut mare ran 18 days ago, and it’s been almost a year since her best–placed second-place finish in the last year. She has a number of third and fourth places and is the most consistent in the field over the past month, so she should be in the running for the win. Run for Peace (15.0) has the next best recent record in the field and offers great value but has only two fourth-places since June 2024.

Race 6 – Dricus (3)

Jockey: Serino Moodley | Trainer: Willem Nel

A strong field of achievers will have hopes of glory, particularly Cognac (3.00) and Run Forest Run (26.00). But I think the fresher legs of Safe Travel (3.75) and Dricus (8.00) will be out ahead of the pack.

Race 8 – Soho Star (1)

Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane | Trainer: Yogas Govender

Dave the King (6.00) has been out of action for 102 days on the back of two wins in three races, but I think the 6-year-old will be beaten by a length by Soho Star, coming through on the inside lane. Soho Star comes into the race in superb form, running 2-2-1-2–5. The 4-year-old bay gelding has had his hooves up for 50 days and will be chomping at the bit to get out in front. Soho Star has four wins and four second-places from 13 races, so there is star quality there.

Race 10 – Mountainsofthemoon (2)

Jockey: Dezahn Louw | Trainer: Robbie Hill

A strong field of 11 horses with plenty of wins among them, but Soho Star’s fresh legs to take Race 8, but it’s two 5-year-old bay mares running on the two inside lanes who should run away with this one. Copacabana (5.00) has run 3-3-1-6-3-1-2-1-4 since May, but my heart is with Mountainsofthemoon, who has run 2-2-3 since the start of August, with less of a workload than Copacabana and an extra 15 days trotting the paddocks working up an appetite for the gates to swing open.

Verdict

Greyville Racecourse, Durban

A maiden win for Roy’s Grace loading in Race 3, while Dricus to make it two wins in three in Race 6.

Soho Star to hold out for a tight finish in Race 8, while Mountainsofthemoon to take the final race of the day by half a head.
