Race 1 – Mystic Dancer (4)
Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane | Trainer: Robbie Hill
Mystic Dancer is looking the hottest to trot, but Priory Terrace is likely to challenge all the way to the post, with the rest of the field trailing. The bay filly came second by a hair in February, followed by a 4th place in March and then a long break with a change of owner before racing again in last month’s Tote Maiden Plate at Greyville, where she came 4th again but in a four-horse tight race. A very strong finisher, I’m feeling she’s ready for a win.
Race 4 – Master du Rouvray (1)
Jockey: Serino Moodley | Trainer: Mark Dixon
A five-horse race after three scratchings, this looks like a shootout between Master du Rouvray and Green Glow. Master du Rouvray's last race saw him him place 4th, but that was after three top runs that earned a 2nd, 2nd and 1st place under Serino Moodley, who will be back in the saddle again on Tuesday.
Race 7 – Perfume Power (2)
Jockey: Damyan Pillay | Trainer: Duncan Howells
Five horses have been scratched from Race 7, leaving six horses to scrap it out for the R130,000 purse. Convocation, Perfume Power and Captain’s Christy should be the main challengers for the top three spots, and it’s likely to be a close-run thing. Convocation and Perfume Power have both picked up a win in their last three races, but Perfume Power has finished top 3 in her last three races, with a win in her last race by three-plus lengths.
Race 9 – Arverni Princess (0)
Jockey: S Khumalo | Trainer: Louis Goosen
The final race of the day should be a classic, with an 11-horse field (three scratchings) battling it out for the R90,000 Bright Future D Stakes. This should be a lock for Arverni Princess, the 5-year-old bay mare who has won three of her last four races, claiming third place in the other race.
Verdict
Race 1 to see Mystic Dancer steal it from Priory Terrace, while Master du Rouvray to hold off Green Glow in Race 4
Perfume Power to claim back-to-back wins in Race 7, while Arverni Princess to run away with Race 9.
