Race 5 – Fire Force (4)

Jockey: Mxolisi Mbuto

Fire Force and Can We Start look the front-runners in this field of seven runners. Both have finished in third place in their last two races, with Fire Force snatching a second place in his last run. 

None of the 6-yr-old bay gelding’s opposition (aside from Can We Start) have placed wall in their last five races. Fire Force had a poor December but has found his racing legs in his last three runs, finishing 5-3-2, so I’m backing him to claim a maiden win over the 2400m course.

Race 6 – Rahhabba (2)

Jockey: S Veale
Trainer: Candice Bass

As we head towards the end of the day it looks like Rahhabba, Miss Twinkle and Ladyofdistinction will leave the other four runners in their wake. All but one of the seven runners have at least one win in their last five outings, so the competition is stuff.

Miss Twinkle and Ladyofdistinction both have three wins in their last five, but I like the way Rahabba has pushed through at the close of her last three races. The 5-yr-old bay filly has placed 1-2-2 and is running consistently, so she has my backing in what is set to be a thrilling race.

Race 8 – Maphaka (6)

Jockey: S Veale
Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer

I only have eyes for Maphaka in the second-last race of the day. Who Blinked, Cowboy Country, Tam’s Knight and Chicarito all have wins in their last five runs, but I like Maphaka’s strength over the close. 

Maphaka had a disappointing last run, finishing 6th in a pacy sprint for the line after running two races in a fortnight. The 5-yr-old bay gelding placed 2-3-2-2 ahead of that last race, and he’s coming off a 55-day day break, so I expect him to storm to the line ahead of some stronger favourites. 

Race 9 – Definitely Yes (4)

Jockey: Chad Little
Trainer: Wendy Whitehead

A big field of 14 ends the day’s racing, but I don’t see much of a challenge for Definitely Yes, who should win by a length-plus. Intrepid and L’ultimo both won their last race, while Definitely Yes has run 1-3-3.

Jockey Chad Little has placed 2-4-4-1-1-2 in his last six runs, and I think he will marshall Definitely Yes through the packed field to his third win, and first after his recent change of ownership.

Verdict

Fire Force is set to take Can We Start to the wire, Rahhabba to burn the field, and Definitely Yes to end the day with a resounding victory.
