Race 1 – Vixeninthevineyard (3)

The day’s racing starts with a 5-horse race that Vixeninthevineyard looks a good bet to win. The 5-yr-old bay filly has been running strong in her last 5 races, finishing 4-2-2-2-3. She looks ready for the winner’s wreath.

Twelfth Of Never ran 3rd in her last race and is ranked a close 2nd in this race. Cool Reggae has two recent 3rd places and Blood Of Eden has run 3-2-6-4-5 but hasn’t looked a strong challenger. This must be Vixeninthevineyard’s big day.

Race 3 – Brigitte Anne (7)

This looks like a possible breakaway, with Major Arcana and Brigitte Anne likely to leave the seven other runners in their wake.

Major Arcana is ranked top for the win, but he comes into the race on the back of his first three races in which he placed 2-9-2. His initial inconsistency has me favouring Brigitte Anne, who has come into the race on the back of runs of 3-4-4-2. The 4-yr-old bay filly has been well-managed and should be firing to go in this race.

Race 6 – Fostinova (6)

Jockey: K De Melo

Trainer: Johan J Vuuren

Fostinova looks strong to take Race 6, with Warning Light the closest challenger, having won his debut race a month ago. Paul Revere has been in good form (3-3-5-1) and Clarkson has 2 wins in 5 races, but my heart is set on Fostinova.

Fostinova will be partnered by jockey K De Melo, who has 6 wins in the last 7 days. The 7-yr-old bay gelding comes into the race on the back of runs of 2-2-1-2-1 and should surely take the tape.

Race 9 – Real Stunner (1)

Jockey: Callan Murray

Trainer: James Crawford

The field of 13 is likely to be headed by Real Stunner, Carnelo and Status. Carnelo is a big threat, with finishes of 1-2-2-2 coming into this meet but might be running low on fuel after a heavy schedule over the last two years.

Status picked up a win in his second race after a break of more than a year, but for me Real Stunner is the most balanced challenger. The 5-yr-old bay gelding’s last three runs at Turffontein have brought finishes of 2nd, 1st and 3rd.

Real Stunner ran a superb race in December for his win in the WSB Grand Heritage Maiden Plate, fighting back from 5th place to burst through for a win by 5 lengths. That burst of speed is what I’m backing to take the signature race of the day.

Vixeninthevineyard to start the day’s racing with a strong run, while Brigitte Anne to claim her first win in Race 3.

Fostinova should be unchallenged in Race 6, while Real Stunner will shake off the challenge from a strong duo in the final race of the day.
