Race 3 – Taking a Risk (8)

Jockey: Trent Mayhew | Trainer: Mike Azzie

There’s not a lot of experience of success in Race 3, which suggests that Taking a Risk is the best in class to take the win. The 3-yr-old bay filly has four second-place finishes this year, including two-in-two in her last two races.

Rock Music is likely to be the closest challenger, but Taking a Risk could take it by two lengths, with the rest of the field a further two lengths behind.

Race 5 – Reece’s Wish (10)

Jockey: G Lerena | Trainer: Candice Dawson

This looks like a two-horse race between Trombolines and Reece’s Wish, with the rest trailing in their wake. Both have placed second in their last race, which was Tromboline’s first, while Reece’s Wish has placed second in both of her first two races.

The 3-yr-old bay filly's last race was 48 days ago, so she should have fresher legs than Trombolines, whose first race was 13 days ago.

Race 7 – United Council (5)

Jockey: M Yeni | Trainer: Robbie Sage

Two scratchings have dropped this race down to just four horses. Nebraas comes into the race on the back of two second places, while Navajo Nation has three third-places in four, but my favourite is United Council. The 6-yr-old bay mare has had a 58-day break from racing, with three wins in her previous nine races, along with two third places.

Race 10 – Tommy Atkins (9)

Jockey: Calvin Habib | Trainer: Alec Laird

This looks like a tight one, with Father Christmas, Tommy Atkins and Guerilla Warfare all busting to take the win. Guerilla Warfare has been solid coming into this race (2-4-4-2-6). Father Christmas has some strong results in his last six races (1-6-9-3-3-1), but he ran six days ago on the back of two races in two months so there might be some fatigue in his blood.

Tommy Atkins is a year younger than 4-yr-old Father Christmas and has had 39 days with his hooves up since claiming his maiden win on 20 November, on the back of a 3rd-place debut a month earlier.

Taking a Risk to turn three second places into a win, while Reece’s Wish is set for a first win.

United Council to hold out a four-horse field, while Tommy Atkins to outrun the high-performing Father Christmas.
