Italy vs West Indies Predictions

The West Indies are on a four-match winning streak, with three comprehensive wins in their three group matches in the World Cup. Italy have won just one of their three matches but have played some impressive cricket. The match is a dead rubber and the last match in Group C, but for Italy a win would lift them above Scotland in the group, which would be a huge positive to end on.

After their magnificent 10-wicket win over Nepal, Italy gave England a run for their money despite losing by 24 runs.

Italy were helpless to prevent England from racking up 202/7 off their 20 overs. Crishan Kalugamage followed up his figures of 3/18 against Nepal by taking 2/41, while Grant Stewart picked up 2/51.

Justin Mosca (43 off 34) kept the runs ticking as Italy slipped to 22/3. Mosca and Ben Manenti launched their side back onto the victory trail, Maneni hammering four fours and six sixes in an astonishing 25-ball innings of 60 that took Italy to 114/4 off 12 overs.

Grant Stewart (45 off 23 balls) kept Italy in the hunt with five sixes before the lower order folded. Italy were bowled out for 178 off the last ball of their 20 overs.

West Indies Form

The West Indies stretched their winning run to four matches when they beat Nepal by nine wickets.

The West Indies attack was ruthless in containing Nepal to just 133/8 off their 20 overs. Jason Holder (4/27, econ 6.75) knocked over three of Nepal’s top five in a devastating spell of bowling.

Brandon King (22 off 17) again put some runs on the board before Shai Hope (61* off 44) and Shimron Hetmyer (46* off 32) added an unbroken 91 for the second wicket to take the West Indies into the Super 8s.

Italian skipper Harry Manenti told interviewers after the match that the associate teams had really stood up to be counted during this World Cup.

“A lot of the Associates have put pressure on the big nations and that's exciting. We had no right to really, but it’s good for the game with 20 teams in the competition. This was the biggest game of our careers. It will be nothing to lose to the West Indies. We'll go and compete again and push them to their limits," said Manenti.

West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed his relief during the post-match interviews about qualifying for the Super 8s.

"It's very pleasing. This is what we set out to do when we got here; that's one hurdle crossed, and now it's on to the next stage. Throughout the innings, it was about limiting the flow of runs and picking up wickets. We didn't get as many as we wanted at the back end, but I'm very happy with the bowlers,” said Hope.
