Al Merrikh will try to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Horoya in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. The Sudanese team, who have shown resilience throughout qualifying, play the home fixture in Kigali. Horoya, with a narrow lead thanks to Yakhouba Gnagna Barry’s goal, only need a draw to progress. However, their recent away loss suggests Al Merrikh may have a chance to exploit any weaknesses as both teams compete for a place in the group stage.

Al Merrikh vs Horoya Predictions

Al Merrikh will attempt to overturn a 1-0 deficit when they face Horoya in the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie on Saturday.

The Sudanese side lost narrowly in Guinea last weekend but had won both matches in the previous qualifying round.

  • Al Merrikh have won 2 of their 3 CAF Champions League matches this season.
  • Al Merrikh have scored 2 goals and conceded 1 in those 3 matches.
  • Al Merrikh have kept 2 clean sheets in their 3 Champions League matches.
  • Horoya have won 2 of their 3 Champions League matches this season.
  • Horoya defeated JS Saoura 3-2 on aggregate in the first preliminary round.
  • Horoya have scored 4 goals and conceded 2 in their 3 Champions League matches.

Head-to-Head

The teams met in the first leg in Conakry on Sunday, 18 October, with Horoya claiming a 1-0 victory.

Yakhouba Gnagna Barry scored the only goal shortly before half-time to give the Guinean champions a narrow advantage ahead of the return fixture.

Al Merrikh must win by at least one goal to keep their hopes of reaching the group stage alive.

Al Merrikh Form

Al Merrikh entered the second preliminary round after eliminating Zambia's Power Dynamos with two 1-0 victories in September.

They won the opening leg before repeating the result away from home, advancing 2-0 on aggregate without conceding.

The Sudanese side then suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Horoya, leaving them needing a victory in the return leg.

Al Merrikh have also been competing in Rwanda's domestic league, where they recorded a goalless draw against Amagaju in September.

Horoya Form

Horoya reached the second preliminary round after overcoming Algeria's JS Saoura in September.

The Guinean champions lost the opening leg 1-0 in Algeria but recovered with a 3-1 home victory to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

They continued their winning form against Al Merrikh last weekend, with Barry's first-half goal securing a 1-0 victory in Conakry.

Horoya have won both their home matches in this season's competition but lost their only away fixture against JS Saoura.

Verdict

Al Merrikh have been competitive throughout qualifying and should provide a strong response to their first-leg defeat. We are backing the hosts on this occasion.
