Sale Sharks are forecast to have the upper hand against Newcastle Red Bulls in the upcoming Premiership Rugby Northern Derby. Newcastle remain winless this season and have lost seven of their last eight home games. Sale come in more confident, having won two consecutive league matches and three of their last four encounters with Newcastle. Both teams recently suffered heavy European losses, but Sale’s overall league form and historical advantage lead to the conclusion that Sale are favoured to cover the -7.5 handicap.

Team News

Newcastle

Head coach Dan McFarland has highlighted the strengths of Sale Sharks for their upcoming derby clash: “First and foremost, we’ve got to focus on our strengths and what we’re trying to achieve. But at the same time, we’ve got to acknowledge that they are a big physical team, and it’s something that they’ve prided themselves on for the last number of years.

“We also acknowledge that they’ve developed from a more forward-oriented team into one with real threats out wide. But the key focuses around us at the moment are developing a team".

Canadian international lock Mason Flesch has signed with the Newcastle Red Bulls until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Sale Sharks

The French authorities have established that the cause of the tragic passing of former Sale Sharks and current Lions player Hyron Andrews was an aortic dissection.
