One More Star and Damova hit this race in good form, but Battleground has the pundits’ tongues wagging. The 7-yr-old bay gelding has 5 wins under his saddle and comes into the meet on the back of 3-2-1-6 finishes. With 30 days free of racing he will be full of running and has a nose for winning.

A tight field of six runners is looking like a two-horse race between Golden Operator and King Harald. The royal runner is ranked slightly ahead of Golden Operator, but the 4-yr-old bay gelding has 2 wins in his last 4 runs, along with a 3rd place, so he has my backing.

Race 7 – Rachel Wall (2)

Trainer: A. P. Peter

Another tight field but one that the 4-yr-old bay filly Rachel Wall should have wrapped up. With 3 wins in 7 races - including back-to-back triumphs late last year - Rachel Wall is a born winner. After her twin wins she stumbled to a 10th place finish in November after being boxed in by the large field, but jockey Kyle Strydom will steer her clear of any repeat crunches as the pair look for a first win together.

Race 8 – Miss Novax (2)

Jockey: Muzi Yeni

Trainer: M. N. Houdalakis

In a field with plenty of recent winners, Miss Novax looks the form horse to take the tape. The 4-yr-old bay filly ran 11 days ago on the back of finishes of 4-6-2-3-3 and has plenty of running in her. She will relish the shorter track and should take an early lead as she looks to put space between her and main challengers Caroline Island and Lovable.
