2020 Durban July Surprise Package

The field for the R4.25 million, Grade 1 event was announced at the Gateway Theatre Of Shopping at Umhlanga on Tuesday, 25 June 2019. There were no major surprises in the field. Roy Had Enough is the outsider for this race, but his inclusion in the field did not come as a shock after his overwhelming victory in Scottsville's Grade 3 Track & Ball Derby.

The Australian-bred Roy Had Enough, trained by Frank Robinson, saw off favourite Charles at that race on 22 June. However, the Durban July will be a tougher challenge.

2020 Durban July Favourite

Hawwaam is the clear favourite for this race, regarded by some as South Africa's greatest ever racehorse. South Africans will be pinning their hopes on the horse trained by Mike and Mathew de Kock as he is regarded as a competitor with international potential.
