First Nations & Pasifika XV vs British & Irish Lions Predictions

The British & Irish Lions have made wholesale changes from this past weekend, as was expected, but it is still a side packed with internationals. This will be the last chance for some of these players to stake a claim for a place on the bench for the last two test matches.

I expect the First Nations & Pasifika to come out firing, but over 80 minutes I doubt they have the cohesiveness to get close here. My best bet is for the Lions to cover the -32.5 handicap.

  • British & Irish Lions have won their last 6 matches.
  • British & Irish Lions has scored 48+ points in 3 of their 5 warm-up matches.
  • British & Irish Lions have won by more than 32 points in 3 of their last 6 matches.

Head to Head

This will be the first-ever encounter between these two sides.

First Nations & Pasifika XV Form

The First Nations & Pasifika XV is not a team that features regularly on the international or any other stage. They have simply created a team to replace the warm-up game that would have been the Melbourne Rebels before the Aussie franchise went into administration.

There is no form whatsoever to go on but based on the selected squad, there is plenty of international quality. The issue with this and all other invitational sides is the short periods in which they have to train.

We saw this a couple of weeks ago when the Lions faced off against a mixed Australia and New Zealand side. Despite having plenty of quality, the invitational side were well beaten.

First Nations & Pasifika XV Team News

Regular internationals will feature in this game including the likes of Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Lukhan Salakai-Loto, Taniela Tupou, Pete Samu, Filip Daugunu, Kurtley Beale and Lalakai Foketi.

British & Irish Lions Form

The British & Irish are unbeaten in six matches since arriving in Australia. Their one defeat came before departing Ireland against Argentina.

The Lions crushed the Western Force and Reds before closer victories over the Waratahs and Brumbies. This past weekend, the Lions took a 1-0 series lead, beating Australia 27-19.

The B+I Lions were the better side from start to finish and the scoreline doesn’t quite do them justice. This is a much-changed side though and one would imagine the ones starting would not be in contention for the second test starting lineup barring injury.

British & Irish Lions Team News

Owen Farrell will captain the B+I Lions in their final warm-up game on tour. Finn Smith gets the nod at 10 with Farrell playing 12. Marcus Smith will come off the bench. Josh van der Flier also makes a strong as does Jack Morgan.

Verdict

British & Irish Lions are backed to win comfortably and cover the -32.5 spread.
