Griquas vs Pumas Preview & Tips - Narrow win for Pumas to secure semi-final spot

Pumas have won their last three matches against Griquas. When they met earlier this season the Pumas won 26-22 in Nelspruit.

Griquas head into the final round of fixtures in third place on the Currie Cup table. They cannot move up in the table but defeat could see them drop out of the playoffs should Western Province beat the Sharks.

Two points from this match will almost guarantee Griquas a semi-final next weekend but they will want to keep the momentum alive with a win.

The Kimberley-based outfit doesn’t come into the fixture in the best of form having lost three of their last four. Since beating the Sharks, Griquas have lost 45-42 to the Lions, 56-33 to the Bulls and 33-32 to the Cheetahs.

Last week Griquas were however very impressive in beating Western Province 46-25 on home soil.

Griquas have been very consistent in their selection this season. They don’t have a big squad so are unlikely to veer away from what they’ve done all season.

The Pumas start the final round in fourth place, the final semi-final spot. They are two points clear of Western Province and one point behind Griquas.

Victory will take the Pumas into third position while defeat will either keep them in fourth or knock them out completely, should Western Province beat the Sharks.

The Nelspruit-based outfit comes into this game in decent form. They have beaten the Lions, drawn with Western Province, lost to the Bulls and beaten the Cheetahs in their last four matches.

In their final round robin match the Pumas were way to strong, beating the Cheetahs 28-19 in Nelspruit. They dominated the forward and kicking battle which laid a platform for a bonus point victory.

There are no serious injuries reported for the Pumas. They should come into this match at full strength.
