Lions vs Griffons Tips - Tight contest between bottom dwellers

The Lions and the Griffons have not played each other in a competitive fixture in recent years.

The Lions have lost their opening two matches of the Currie Cup. Fortunately, they have picked up three bonus points in those two fixtures.

In round one the Lions suffered a 44-28 home defeat to Western Province. They were never really in the game but scored some late points to make it look respectable.

Last week the Lions put up a strong fight in Nelspruit against the defending Currie Cup champions. It was not enough though as the Lions went down 34-27.

Lions will have a completely second-string side this weekend as the others will be playing in the URC.

Promotion was always going to be tough and it has showed for the Griffons. They don’t have the quality to match the bigger sides, even with those unions largely playing second-string sides.

While they were competitive in round one, losing 32-16 to the Sharks, the Griffons were beaten 52-12 last week by the Cheetahs.

Changes are expected in the Griffons side. They unfortunately do not have the quality in their squad to match the opposition though.
