Lions vs Western Province Predictions & Tips - Province to get narrow win in Currie Cup

Of the last four matches between these sides each have won two. They last met in May 2022 where the Lions won 33-10 at home. Earlier the season Province won 48-36 at home.

The Lions finished the 2022 Currie Cup campaign at the bottom of the table. They achieved just two victories in their 12 matches.

This season the Lions will hope to challenge higher up the table, but it is difficult with the first team squad featuring in the United Rugby Championship.

With the URC on a break, the Lions have picked a side with some URC players this weekend, hoping to get off to a winning start. Sti Sithole, Jaco Visagie and Ruan Smith all start in the front-row while there is plenty experience in the back division.

Western Province, much like their opponents, had a dreadful Currie Cup campaign in 2022. They finished second from bottom with just three victories to their name.

As the most successful union in Currie Cup history, Province will hope to put up a better fight this season. They will mostly be playing with second stringers, however.

Clayton Blommetjies starts at fullback with Angelo Davids at right wing. Scarra Ntubeni is in at hooker in a relatively strong side.
