The Bulls have won their four of their last five matches against the Pumas. They met earlier in this Currie Cup campaign with the Bulls winning 32-27 at Loftus Versfeld.

The Pumas are third on the Currie Cup table on 27 points but one defeat could push them down to sixth. They have enjoyed one of their finer seasons but will have to keep the performances up if they are to qualify for the playoffs.

In mid-July the Pumas suffered two consecutive defeats to the Cheetahs and Western Province but they have bounced back from that. They beat the Lions 36-33 before drawing 40-40 against Western Province last time out.

It was a superb match where the Pumas trailed by 14 points with 10 minutes to go. Their set piece dominance however got them penalty after penalty which eventually led to them scoring two converted tries.

The Pumas have only had two days to recover compared to the Bulls three. The lack of squad depth in Nelspruit means that this may be a match the Pumas write off in an attempt to win the following two.

Bulls Form

The Bulls are four points clear at the top of the table on 39 points. They have only lost twice this season and victory here will all but secure a home playoff.

Since losing to the Sharks 35-28 at the beginning of August, the Bulls have managed to beat Griquas 56-33 and the Lions 48-21 in their last match. Their only other defeat this season came on the opening weekend when they fielded a severely under-strength team against Western Province.

The Bulls are looking to defend their Currie Cup title they won in 2020 and certainly look the most likely. Other than the Sharks, the Bulls have outplayed everyone.

Jake White is set to recall flyhalf Johan Goosen this week. He came off the bench at the weekend to score but should take over from Chris Smith once again.
