Greyville Racing Tips - Wednesday, 4 November 2026

Last updated: 45 minutes ago

Greyville's eight-race Polytrack meeting on 4 November features four win selections. J Lordi is the standout in Race 1, having finished second twice over 1000m at this track and now aided by a 4kg apprentice claim, though faces a wide draw and improving rivals. Uzwano is tipped in Race 4 after recent wins and a favourable draw, Fire Chief is selected in Race 5 with a return to 1000m expected to suit, and Targaryen Knight is backed in Race 7 following a strong runner-up effort over course and distance. Each selection faces competitive opposition.

Greyville Racing Tips - Best Bet of the Day

Wednesday brings an eight-race card to Greyville in Durban, with action at the Polytrack getting under way at 15:07 SAST. I've picked four win selections spread across the afternoon and evening, with my favourite being a maiden contender (J Lordi) who has twice gone close at this track and trip.

Race 1 - J Lordi (8)  |  15:07 SAST  |  1000m

Jockey: Athinesh Boolkah (4kg claim)  |  Trainer: Kelly Mitchley
Two Polytrack appearances over this 1000m distance have brought two second-place finishes for J Lordi. On 9 October he was beaten by a narrow margin by Gallic King before chasing home behind Belligerent over the same course and distance on 23 October. That sequence makes him the standout form candidate in an eight-runner maiden.

The three-year-old has pace and Athinesh Boolkah’s 4kg claim could help offset the handicap of being slotted into barrier eight. Task Force finished fifth in the 9 October race but remains the primary danger for the win, while Dee Day and Choctaw Ridge are both strong contenders. J Lordi is the pick to finally convert his consistency into a first victory.

Race 4 - Uzwano (2)  |  16:55 SAST  |  2000m

Jockey: Craig Zackey  |  Trainer: Dean Kannemeyer
Uzwano heads into the 2000m Middle Stakes in strong form with two wins and a third from his last three starts along with top three placings in each of his last five starts. His latest success came in the Michaelmas Handicap over 1900m at Greyville on 11 October when he scraped a narrow win. The five-year-old has also shown he can handle the Greyville Polytrack.

Craig Zackey takes the ride from an advantageous draw of gate two. A small rise in the weights demands a further effort but Uzwano’s sustained form makes him a solid pick for the win. Cleartherunway, who finished close behind him last time out, and the consistent challenger Pinot Grigio are major threats, but don't discount Imperial Power who definitely has the legs to pull into a tussle for the tape.

Race 5 - Fire Chief (8)  |  17:30 SAST  |  1000m

Jockey: Calvin Habib  |  Trainer: Gareth van Zyl Jnr
Fire Chief will no doubt be happy to be dropping down to the 1000m circuit in the Progress Plate. He returned from an 11-week absence with a second-place finish and then stayed on to claim fourth place over 1200m at Scottsville. Those two outings will have put the three-year-old in sharp racing condition for his next assignment at the Polytrack.

The gelding has already won at the minimum distance and meets his rivals on favourable terms. Calvin Habib takes the ride although the widest stall is a concern in this sprint. Clair De Lune is a serious opponent after a close Polytrack second over the 1000m sprint on 16 October, while Luneluck arrives following a recent win. Fire Chief gets the narrow vote in a competitive race.

Race 7 - Targaryen Knight (1)  |  18:40 SAST  |  1600m

Jockey: Qiniso Ngcobo (4kg claim)  |  Trainer: Wendy Whitehead
Targaryen Knight finished the runner-up behind Run To Rio over this course and distance on 16 October in a performance that made him look highly competitive and capable of pushing for the win. The four-year-old gelding has been eased to a workable merit rating and now returns to the same 1600m Polytrack with the benefit of the inside gate.

Qiniso Ngcobo’s 4kg claim strengthens his case in the race but the rider will be watching out for some strong competition in this field, notably from Full Monty who comes into the race on the back of a win and a second place in his last two runs. Ragnar The King is another credible rival while The Gliding Fish could improve after his latest run. Targaryen Knight is backed to make his favourable draw and recent course form count at the business end of the 1600m course.

Verdict

On voting day Wednesday at Greyville I'm backing J Lordi, Uzwano, Fire Chief and Targaryen Knight for wins.
