Bayonne vs Leinster Predictions

Bayonne have had a poor Investec Champions Cup campaign, although they have been playing well at home. Leinster are on a lengthy winning streak and have won all their games in the competition this season.

  • Leinster have won 8 consecutive fixtures in all competitions.
  • Leinster have won 3 consecutive away games in all competitions.
  • Bayonne have lost 5 of their last 6 matches in all competitions.
  • Bayonne have won 11 of their last 12 home fixtures in all competitions.

Head to Head

Bayonne and Leinster will meet for the first time in a competitive match.

Bayonne Form

Bayonne were outplayed in both halves against the Leicester Tigers away from home in their Investec Champions Cup match last weekend, losing 57-14.

Before that, Bayonne also failed to win their earlier European Rugby Champions Cup matches, losing 26-17 at home to the Stormers and 68-14 away to Harlequins.

Aviron Bayonne have defeated Toulon 35-32, Toulouse 40-26, Clermont 44-17, Montauban 49-7, and Lyon 22-20 in their last five home league fixtures.

Bayonne are last in Pool 3 with no points from three games.

Bayonne have struggled in this competition this season; however, they are competitive at home, having won 11 of their last 12 outings, but they will have to play well to beat Leinster.

Leinster Form

Leinster did enough to see off the challenge of La Rochelle in their European Rugby Champions Cup clash last weekend, winning 25-24 at home after leading 12-7 at the break.

Earlier in the competition, Leinster won both their opening European Rugby Champions Cup matches, defeating Harlequins 45-28 at home and the Leicester Tigers 23-15 away.

Leinster have had some success away from home in the United Rugby Championship this season. They lost 35-0 to the Stormers and 39-31 to the Bulls before defeating the Dragons 24-10 and Munster 13-8.

Leinster are 1st in Pool 3 with 14 points from three matches.

Leinster will start confidently against Bayonne, having won eight in a row, including three on the trot away from home, although they will not take their opponents for granted, as they tend to perform well in their own backyard.

Team News

Bayonne

Tom Spring has scored two tries and slotted four conversions in the 2025/26 Investec Champions Cup.

Lucas Paulos has crossed the try line twice in the competition so far.

Leinster

Lock Joe McCarthy has pointed out that Bayonne will be a tough prospect away from home: “Bayonne have good athletes and they will want to keep the ball alive. They won’t want us to get a ruck set so they will look to play through us and offload. That is very French and obvious to say but it is still very hard to defend when they get it right.”

Tadhg Furlong, Garry Ringrose, RG Snyman, and Jimmy O'Brien have all returned from injury and will likely feature against Bayonne this weekend.

Verdict

Leinster have been consistently winning their fixtures lately and are tipped to cover the -18.5 handicap.
