Edinburgh vs Toulon Predictions

Edinburgh reached the semi-finals of the EPCR Challenge Cup last season, and they have been in solid form at home lately. Toulon lost the quarter-finals of the Investec Cup in their previous campaign and are on a losing streak away from home.

  • Edinburgh have won 2 of their last 5 fixtures (URC).
  • Edinburgh have won 3 consecutive home matches (URC).
  • Edinburgh have defeated Toulon twice in a row.
  • Toulon have won 4 of their last 5 games in all competitions.
  • Toulon have won 3 consecutive away matches in all competitions.

Head to Head

Edinburgh have a slight edge with two victories to none against Toulon.

Edinburgh Form

Edinburgh performed well in the EPCR Challenge Cup last season, reaching the semi-finals of the competition, where they lost 39-24 to Bath.

Edinburgh currently occupy 10th place in the United Rugby Championship standings with 13 points from five matches.

Edinburgh's previous five home games have yielded solid results. They lost 18-17 to the Sharks, 39-24 to Bath, and defeated Ulster 47-17, Benetton 43-0, and Ospreys 19-17.

Edinburgh have won their last three home fixtures consecutively, and have never lost to Toulon, giving them the edge to start their Investec Cup campaign with a victory.

Toulon Form

Toulon fell short in their quarter-final clash against Toulouse in last season's European Rugby Champions Cup, losing 21-18.

Toulon sit second overall in the Top 14 standings with 34 points from 11 matches.

Toulon defeated Montpellier 27-17 before losing 35-32 to Bayonne, 27-10 to Clermont, 59-24 to Toulouse, and 51-24 to Stade Francais in their last five away games.

Toulon must improve their away form, as they have been out of sorts on their travels lately, losing four in a row, and they have been defeated twice by Edinburgh.

Team News

Edinburgh

Head coach Sean Everitt has stated Edinburgh is relishing the opportunity to be competing in the Investec Cup this season: “I think the guys are excited to be back in the Champions Cup. One of the biggest competitions in the world. Playing against the best opposition in the Top 14.

“It’s great to be able to measure yourself against the French competition. At the same time, for us, it’s a good benchmark to see where we are and how important this win will be if we want to make the last 16 in the competition.”

Hooker Ewan Ashman and winger Darcy Graham are available for selection.

Tom Currie (knee) and Ben Muncaster (MCL) are sidelined through injury.

Toulon

French internationals Charles Ollivon and Jean-Baptiste Gros are likely to be included in the starting XV.

Paolo Garbisi and Ben White were rested last week and could feature against Edinburgh.
