Auckland Form
Auckland have endured another poor season in the NPC in which they have won just twice. While the quarterfinals are not an option, they will want to end the season on a high.
After losing six straight games, some of them by significant margins, Auckland found two wins at Tasman and at home to Manawatu in rounds six and seven.
However, they have lost their last two matches to Counties Manukau and last week to Hawkes Bay. Both games were away from home, but they conceded 49 and 45 in each, scoring 28 themselves in both matches.
Otago Form
There were not very high expectations from Otago going into the 2025 NPC campaign. Most bookmakers had them as wild outsiders, but going into the final week, they are just a point off Canterbury after winning seven of their nine games.
It has been quite strange for Otago as they have the worst points difference of the top five teams (+58) which points to the number of tight encounters they have won.
Otago’s two defeats came at home to Hawkes Bay (by six points) and away to Tasman (by four points). Many of their victories have also been by tight margins.
Since losing to Tasman, Otago have won their last four matches, including a two-point win over Taranaki and Canterbury. Last week, the Dunedin outfit defeated North Harbour 41-26.

Otago are backed to beat Auckland and cover the -4.5 handicap.
