Waikato, currently one point ahead of Northland, have won two of their last three games but suffered a heavy loss recently. Northland arrive in good form, unbeaten in five of their last six matches and recently held Canterbury to a draw. While Waikato are slight favorites, Northland’s momentum makes them strong contenders; backing Northland on the +2.5 handicap with a chance of an outright win is suggested.

This is expected to be a thrilling contest with the loser likely to drop out of the top eight. Waikato are slight favourites, but Northland come into the game unbeaten in five of their last six. I am backing Northland in the +2.5 handicap with a possible win.

Waikato come into this round 10 fixture of the NPC with five wins and four defeats. They have 25 points, one clear of their opponents, Northland.

Should Waikato lose, they could still drop out of the playoff places, so this game will be critical to them. They have won two of their last three, so confidence is relatively good.

Waikato beat North Harbour 29-28 before upsetting the odds against Tasman away, winning 29-24. Last week, however, the Hamilton outfit fell to a heavy 41-5 defeat at Bay of Plenty.

Northland Form


Northland will be confidence coming into this match despite holding onto the final playoff spot. Defeat could see them knocked out, depending on other results.

However, Northland have won four of their last six games and are unbeaten in five with just one loss. After beating Auckland away, Northland defeated Hawkes Bay at home at the end of August. That was followed by a 29-10 away loss to Otago.

Northland bounced back to beat Wellington at home and held on for a one-point victory at North Harbour a week later. Last weekend, Northland secured a 19-19 home draw against table topping Canterbury.
