Wellington have not lost to Southland since 1978. Most of their recent victories over Southland have been by a convincing margin, including last season’s 41-28 success.

Wellington have started their title defence of the NPC title well with two wins from their opening two fixtures. They are currently fifth on the table so will be looking for a bonus point this Saturday.
In the opening round, Wellington beat Manawatu 22-6 away from home. They then comfortably beat Otago 28-5 away last weekend.

Wellington will fancy their chances of taking a full house of points in their first home fixture of the season while resting key players.
Southland Form
Southland have impressed so far this season after a poor 2022 NPC campaign. They have lost one and drawn another.
In round one Southland did well to hold Waikato 29-21 on home soil. Last week they drew 15-all in the derby against Northland. It wasn’t the best quality fixture but regardless a result both sides needed.

Southland won’t fancy their chances this weekend, but they have performed well in the opening two rounds. They will certainly fancy a bonus point.
