The Bulls are heavy favourites to win at home with the handicap set at 18 points. While both teams will be trying to find some cohesion in the opening weekend, the Bulls have a very strong side so I’m backing them to cover that margin.

The Bulls will be looking to emulate their success from the 2021/22 season when they lost out to the Stormers in the URC final. Last season was less successful, finishing sixth overall. They still managed a playoff berth, so the season wasn’t a complete misery.

Jake White still has the core of the squad together and will be confident of a strong showing this season. While the Bulls started last season well, they had a terrible slump in the middle of the season, only to rescue it somewhat later on.

Jake White has a wealth of experience to call upon in this opening round. They are missing Marco van Staden, Kurt-Lee Arendse, Canan Moodie, and new signing, Willie le Roux to international duty at the World Cup.

Scarlets Form

The Scarlets had a season they’d rather forget last time out, finishing 14th on the table with just six wins, a draw and 11 defeats from 18 matches.

To add to that, Scarlets finished above only the Dragons in the Welsh Shield with Cardiff and Ospreys above them. This time around they will want to challenge the top eight at the very least.
