The Autumn International series kicks off on 1 November and will run to the end of the month. While no trophy is up for grabs, the seasonal tour of the Southern Hemisphere up north has become synonymous with the game.
New rivalries have been built over recent years, particularly with South Africa's participation in the United Rugby Championship, but there is something else that makes 2025 very important for all teams.
The World Rankings, as they stand after the Autumn internationals, is what will be used at the draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. The World Cup has now changed as well with six groups of four rather than four groups of five, which means for the first time in history, there will be a round of 16.
The top six ranked teams will be placed in the six groups and then there will be a draw to see which others fill out the groups. This means that whoever is ranked seventh or eighth. This leaves Argentina (currently sixth), Australia and Scotland with the potential of ending up in a group of death, however, due to the six groups, is unlikely to be as difficult as it was with just four groups.
