Scotland vs New Zealand Predictions - Scotland poised for first-ever win over All Blacks

Scotland is set to face New Zealand in a highly anticipated rugby clash. Although the All Blacks have historically dominated with 30 wins out of 32 encounters, recent games have been relatively close. Scotland views this match as a prime opportunity to finally secure a victory, especially given New Zealand's recent inconsistencies. Despite a challenging Six Nations campaign, Scotland's form has shown promise, notably with a massive win over the USA. New Zealand, though inconsistent, remains a formidable opponent but will face challenges due to key player absences.

Scotland vs New Zealand Predictions

Scotland have never beaten the All Blacks, but they will see this as an ideal opportunity to change that. Given the traveling New Zealand have had this week, coupled with their inconsistent form, I am backing the hosts to get at least within 7.5 points.

  • Scotland have won 4 of their last 6 matches.
  • Scotland have lost their last 3 matches to New Zealand by 8, 5 & 8 points.
  • New Zealand have won 30 of their 32 matches against Scotland.
  • New Zealand have won their last 3 matches by more than 7.5 points.

Head to Head

Scotland and New Zealand have met 32 times with New Zealand winning 30 and Scotland 0. There were two draws in 1964 and 1983 – this remains one of the most one-sided tier one nations matches ever.

They last met in 2022 where the All Blacks won 31-23 at Murrayfield. The last three games between the two sides have, however, been close, with New Zealand winning by eight, five and eight points.

Scotland Form

Scotland are still searching for their first-ever win over the mighty All Blacks. They’ve come close in the last three encounters but have yet to cross the magical line.

Some would say, and I am one of them, that this is a great chance for the Scots to get their first win over New Zealand. The All Blacks are winning games, but they have been nowhere near their vintage best.

Scotland had a poor Six Nations campaign but still finished fourth, beating Wales and Italy. They lost by one point to England. In July, without their Lions players, Scotland lost away to Fiji but beat the Maori All Blacks and Samoa.

Last weekend, at Murrayfield, Scotland humiliated the USA 85-0.

Scotland Injuries & Team News

Expect a vastly different side from last weekend but this Scotland team with Finn Russell leading the attack certainly have the quality to turn the All Blacks over.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand are such a tough side to read this year, in fact, last year, too. They came second in the Rugby Championship but only lost out on the title to points difference.

Despite that, they just don’t look like a unit at the moment. Flashes of brilliance is masked by errors we just aren’t used to seeing from an All Blacks side. They are inconsistent during games, but they still have the grit to grind out results.

Last week, in a scrappy game against Ireland where neither side was very good, the All Blacks trailed for the better part of 60 minutes. However, one score and they found momentum and ended up winning 26-13 after being down 13-7 at the break.

Scotland will ask plenty of questions of this New Zealand side on Saturday afternoon. We will have to wait and see if they have enough answers to retain their unbeaten record against Scotland.

New Zealand Injuries & Team News

Scott Robertson will be without the services of two Barrett brothers. Scott Barrett is sidelined for this match while Jordie will miss the rest of the tour. Robertson may make a few other rotational changes.

Verdict

Scotland are backed to get within 7.5 points and perhaps win their first-ever game against the All Blacks.
