In 2018, the USA caused a huge upset, being Scotland 30-29. They met again in 2024; a match Scotland won 42-7 in the USA.

Scotland has endured a reasonably average 2025, although had a couple of results gone their way, things may have been different. The fear for Scotland is that they have been pretty good since about 2018, but they don’t have the quality coming through with players ageing.
This year, Scotland beat Italy and Wales in the Six Nations, losing to Ireland, France and England. However, the Scots only just went down 16-15 to England at Twickenham. They lost by 14 points to Ireland and 19 points to France.
In July, Scotland, without their players who were picked for the British & Irish Lions tour, toured the pacific where they lost 29-14 to Fiji and beat Samoa 41-12.

Scotland are likely to go with a mixed bag this weekend. They should win regardless but getting some minutes into certain players ahead of big games this November will be crucial.
USA Form
USA are desperate to improve as a rugby nation with the 2031 Rugby World Cup set to be hosted in the US. However, their form over the last few years has not been great, failing to even qualify for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
During the Pacific Nations Cup in August and September, USA lost 34-20 to Canada and 47-21 to Japan in the group stage. They did bounce back to defeat Samoa 29-13 in their last game which also secured passage to the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
However, the USA needs to start improving in terms of performance and results. They are trying to bring younger players into the fold but in the short term, they may hamper results.
