New Zealand scored a converted try in the first half against Canada in their Women's Rugby World Cup semi-final clash last weekend, but conceded four tries and two conversions to trail 24-7 at the break.

New Zealand added two tries and a conversion in the second half but couldn't bridge the points gap, losing 34-19 to Canada. 

Earlier in the tournament, New Zealand thrashed Spain 54-8, Japan 62-19, and Ireland 40-0 in Pool C, and defeated South Africa 46-17 in the quarter-finals. 

New Zealand were unable to defend their title but will be confident heading into the third-place playoff against France, having won two of their last three encounters.

France kept the scoring low in the first half against England in their Women's Rugby World Cup semi-final match last weekend, dotting down over the try line once to trail 7-5 at the break.

France scored two tries and a conversion in the second half but conceded four converted tries to lose 35-17 to England. 

Before that result, France defeated Italy 24-0, Brazil 84-4, and South Africa 57-10 in Pool D, and Ireland 18-13 in the quarter-finals. 

France have been in solid form during the tournament but face a tricky test against New Zealand, having lost to them by 24 points in 2024.
