England Form

England are in a very strange period at the moment. After a few tough years, they have certainly started showing signs of improving over the last 18 months, however, results have not quite gone their way.

After a competitive showing in the 2024 Six Nations where the English ran France close in Paris and beat Ireland at home, they lost narrowly in New Zealand in two successive Test matches.

In the November internationals, England suffered close losses to New Zealand, Australia and South Africa before beating Japan. That trend continued last week in their 2025 Six Nations opener, losing 27-22 in Ireland.

England were very good in the first half and held a half-time lead. The hosts showed their quality in the second half, but England had more than enough about them to keep them in the conversation this season.

In a big call, Steve Borthwick has opted to give a start to flyhalf Fin Smith, moving regular flyhalf, Marcus Smith to fullback.

France Form

France were not at their best during the Six Nations last season, partly because Antoine du Pont didn’t feature. However, they were back close to their best during the November 2024 internationals where they beat Japan, New Zealand and Argentina.

Coming into the Six Nations, France were slight favourites for the title ahead of Ireland and they showed why last Friday, thrashing Wales 43-0 in Paris. While Wales have lost 13 on the bounce, it still took a very convincing performance from France to win that comfortably.

Matthieu Jalibert takes over the number 10 jersey with Romain Ntamack out after his red card last weekend. In the only other change, Damian Penaud returns to play at wing.
