France have been inconsistent this season with some very good performances mixed with some horror shows. England have been consistent, but this is not a good fixture considering it’s a must win in France.

That said, the eight-point handicap in the hosts’ favour seems excessive to me given the performances this season. I’m backing England to get within eight and perhaps win it.

Last season France thrashed England 42-7 away from home.

France have endured a torrid tournament thus far but still find themselves in third place on 13 points. They have won two and lost two games.

On the opening weekend, France lost 37-31 at home to Ireland. Looking back, that is the result that has cost them being in the title race.

France comfortably beat Scotland away in the second week before losing at home to Italy by three points in round three. Last weekend, France were back to their best, beating Wales 45-12 away from home.

France still mathematically have a shot at the title but that is irrelevant really. However, I expect them to be at full strength given the magnitude of the game for England.

England U-20 Form

England are top of the U20 Six Nations table going into the final week of action. They have won three and drawn one of their four games.

Just a point clear of Ireland, who are almost certain winners against Scotland, England know they need to get a win in France this weekend. So far, England have been dominant in the tournament, beating Italy 36-11 in round one before thrashing Wales 28-7 at home.

That was followed by a 13-point away win over Scotland, but last week, on home soil, England could only muster a 32-all draw against Ireland. Had they won that game, the tournament would be theirs by now.

There is no doubt that England will have their strongest available side on the field this Friday. It is a must-win if they are to claim the title.
