Italy vs Scotland Predictions

Scotland are favourites with a handicap of 11 points. Given Italy’s performances this season, they are not cakewalk, especially at home. Last season, Scotland beat Italy by 12 points on two occasions, but I expect this one to be closer.

Scotland have won their last 13 matches against Italy. The last time Italy managed to win this fixture was back in 2015. In 2023 these sides met twice, once in the Six Nations and once in a Rugby World Cup warm-up clash. Both games took place at Murrayfield which saw Scotland win 26-14 and 25-13.

After a disappointing Rugby World Cup in 2023, Italy have continued their vast improvement seen during the 2023 Six Nations. While they failed to win a game, they were very close in a few of them.

This year the Six Nations began with a narrow 27-24 home defeat to England. A week later, Italy were humbled 36-0 in Ireland.

A fortnight ago, Italy were magnificent against France in Paris. They drew the game 13-13 but a few harsh decisions cost them the crucial win.

I expect Italy to go with a similar side to the one that featured against France.

Scotland Form

Scotland are currently second on the Six Nations table, but they are six points adrift of Ireland. They play Ireland next week in what could be a championship decider, but first, they will require England to do them a favour this weekend and for themselves to beat Italy.

The Scots began the Six Nations with a narrow 27-26 away win over Wales before going down 20-16 to France at home. Scotland, however, bounced back on home soil last time out, beating England 30-21.

The loss to France was the costly one as victory there would have put them withing touching distance of Ireland. It still remains open, but a bonus point win this weekend will certainly help their cause.
