Italy lost by a point in Ireland before beating France 23-20 away from home. That was an incredible result when you considered that France went on to win the U20 World Championships later in the year.

That victory was backed up with a convincing 47-14 victory over Scotland at home, but a week later the Italians lost 27-15 in Wales, a game they really would have fancied winning.

Italy failed to back these performances up in the U20 World Championships as they finished in 11th place.
