Blues vs Hurricanes Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

On Sunday 14 June the Blues host the Hurricanes in the Super Rugby Aotearoa at Eden Park in Auckland. In what is expected to be a titanic clash it is the Blues who I fancy to win this one narrowly.

Not only have the Blues already beaten the Hurricanes this season but the Auckland-based outfit has shown promise that has been missing for a few years now. The handicap is set at -2 for the Blues and at Eden Park, despite being empty, I fancy them in this one.

Blues Form

The Blues last match ended in a 43-10 victory at Eden Park against the Lions. Up to the point where the season was suspended the Blues looked in fine shape, something they haven't managed for a number of years. Their run of form included a magnfiicent victory over the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Rieko Ioane, the brilliant Blues winger always offers a potent threat to opposition defences and he scored twice against the Lions. He will most certainly be a favourite in the first try scorer market once those odds become available.

The Blues have looked impressive in 2020 and they will be hoping to carry their form from earlier in the year into Super Rugby Aotearoa. Based on earlier form and performances the Blues offer great value on the small -2 handicap offered by the bookmakers.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes last match ended with an impressive 27-24 victory over the Chiefs at the FMG Stadium. Their form has been good with four wins from six matches but should you have watched their matches it hasn't always been convincing.

The main concern for the Hurricanes will be among the forwards. They have yet to dominate the tight phases and while their back-line remains as deadly as always, they require the front-foot ball from the forwards to make it count.

Blues vs Hurricanes Head to Head

The Hurricanes have had the better of this fixture with eight wins from their last 10 encounters. However the Blues have been a shadow of their former selves in recent years. 2020 has brough renewed home and the Blues beat the Hurricanes 24-15 earlier in the Super Rugby 2020 season.

Blues vs Hurricanes Betting Odds

The Blues are slight favourites at home at 1.73 with the Hurricanes paying 2.20 for victory. I draw is set at 15.00.

The handicap is set at two points with both teams paying 1.90 to cover the handicap. Try scoring odds will be available closer to the time with Blues winger, Rieko Ioane worth a look at.

Blues vs Hurricanes Match Up

The Blues have become a far better unit this year, with their strong pack complementing their free-flowing backline. With the inconsistencies of the Hurricanes, they could well be exposed by the organisation of their hosts.

Rieko Ioane is likely to be the key man when it comes to finishing off the creative play of the Blues, while Beauden Barrett could cause his former employers a lot of headaches.
