This will be the Brumbies' first home fixture of the 2021 Super Rugby trans-Tasman tournament. The Hurricanes won’t have it all their own way, with the Brumbies historically very strong in matches on home soil. My best bet for this one is for the Brumbies to finish within seven points of the Canes, with an upset not out of the question.

Their last meeting took place in 2019 Super Rugby where the Hurricanes were victorious 43-13 at home.

The Brumbies are winless in their opening three matches of Super Rugby trans-Tasman. It has been a disappointing campaign for a side that promised so much during Super Rugby AU.

The tournament began very impressively for the Brumbies against the Crusaders in Christchurch. Only a last minute conversion miss cost them a draw as they went down 31-29.

Thereafter the Brumbies performances dropped, as have the results. In round two the Brumbies lost 40-19 at the Chiefs before losing 38-10 against the Blues in Auckland last week.

It has been an incredibly tough start for the Brumbies with their first three fixtures all away from home. They should be better in Canberra this weekend.

Dan McKellar has made five changes to his side this weekend. Luke Reimer makes his first start at flank while hooker Lachlan Lonergan, centre Bayley Kuenzle, scrumhalf Ryan Lonergan and winger Mack Hansen all return to the side.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes are second on the table, level on points with the Blues but below them on points difference. They have achieved a bonus point win in all three matches thus far.

A 64-48 victory in round one at the Waratahs was followed by a 35-13 win at home against the Rebels. Last week the Hurricanes comfortably saw off the Western Force 43-6 on home soil.

This will certainly be their toughest test yet. Should the Canes succeed in Canberra they will fancy their chances of lifting the trophy.

Ardie Savea returns to the starting lineup this weekend as does Dan Coles. He comes in for Asafo Aumua who misses out with concussion.
