Hurricanes vs Reds Predictions
The Reds have slowly found their way back into the form books with a victory and tight loss in their last two outings. They will want to end the 2021 campaign season on a high, while the Hurricanes are still in with a shot of making the final. My best bet for this one is for the Reds to lose by less than 13 points.
- Hurricanes have won 3 of their last 4 matches.
- Hurricanes have won 8 of their last 9 matches against the Reds.
- Reds have not lost by 13 or more points in their last 2 matches.
Head to Head
The Hurricanes lead the Reds 8-1 in their last nine matches. They last met in the 2018 Super Rugby tournament where the Hurricanes won 38-34 in Wellington.
Hurricanes Form
The Hurricanes are fourth on the Super Rugby trans-Tasman table with three wins from their opening four matches. They enter the final week of round robin matches needing huge favours if they are to reach the final.
Over the opening three rounds, the Canes beat the Waratahs 64-38 away, the Rebels 35-13 at home and the Western Force 43-6 at home. Those three big wins put the Hurricanes in prime position to make the playoffs with a massive points difference.
Unfortunately last week the Hurricanes faltered in Canberra against the Brumbies. The 12-10 defeat dropped the Canes down the table and they now face a struggle to finish in the top two.
Hurricanes Injuries & Team News
The Hurricanes have made four changes to their side that lost last weekend. Hooker Asafu Aumua returns from injury while Reed Prinsep starts at flank.
In the backline Cam Roigard gets his chance at scrumhalf with Wes Goosen getting the nod on the wing. Ngani Laumape will play his final game for the Hurricanes on Friday before going over to play in France.
Reds Form
The Reds have shown vast improvement over the last two rounds of Super Rugby trans-Tasman. After winning Super Rugby AU, the Reds were completely off the pace in the opening two weeks of Super Rugby trans-Tasman.
They lost 40-19 to the Higlanders in round one and followed it up with a 63-28 loss at home to the Crusaders. In the third week the Reds pulled it together with a magnificent 40-34 home victory over the Chiefs.
Last week the Reds were on the losing side again but their performance was good. They lost 31-24 to the high-flying Blues in Queensland.
Reds Injuries & Team News
The Reds will have to continue without James O’Connor as he has not recovered from a neck injury. Regular fullback, Bryce Hegarty has recovered and will start at flyhalf.
Suliasi Vunivalu is also injured which sees James Flook recalled to start on the wing.
