Reds vs Brumbies Predictions

Both matches between these sides this season have followed a similar pattern. The Reds have won by two points on each occasion, a trend I expect to continue. My bet is for the Reds to win by between 1-12 points

  • Reds have won 3 of their last 4 matches against the Brumbies.
  • Reds have won 7 of their 8 matches this season
  • Reds have won their last 7 home matches against the Brumbies.
  • Brumbies have lost their last 2 matches against the Reds by 2 points.

Head to Head

Reds lead the Brumbies 3-1 in their last four outings. They last met earlier in this campaign where the Reds won 26-24 at home.

Reds Form

The Reds topped the Super Rugby AU table after winning seven of their eight matches. They finished four points clear of the Brumbies who had to come through the playoff to the final.

Over the course of the season the Reds have been superb but their most recent result will be of concern. They went down 30-27 to the Western Force in the final round robin match.

What will give the Queensland-based outfit confidence is that they have beaten the Brumbies twice this season. The Reds won 40-38 in Canberra while their last meeting ended 26-24 in the Reds favour.

Reds Injuries & Team News

The Reds had a weekend off last week as they watched the Brumbies in the playoff. Hamish Stewart and Joshua Flook have been solid in midfield and retain their places.

The only surprise to the Reds lineup is that Filipo Daugunu will start on the bench. He could however offer plenty late in the game should the Reds be chasing a result.

Brumbies Form

The Brumbies have not managed to repeat their dominant Super Rugby AU performance from last season but were still comfortably good enough to reach the final.

The Canberra-based outfit won six of their eight matches with their only two defeats coming at the hands of the Reds.  Last weekend the Brumbies beat the Western Force 21-9 in the Super Rugby AU playoff to reach the final.

Despite not being at their very best, the Brumbies have been the top try scorers (37) in the competition and have conceded the least (15).

Brumbies Injuries & Team News

In a surprising move, Lachlan Lonergan will start at hooker ahead of try scoring machine, Folau Fainga’a. The rest of the side remains as expected with Nic White and Noah Lolesio forming the halfback pairing.

Verdict

The Reds have already beaten the Brumbies twice this season. On both occasions the margin was two points with the sides well matched. I'm tipping the Reds to win by 1-12 points and claim the Super Rugby AU title.
