Leeds vs Newcastle English Premier League Predictions - Leeds tight defence to earn home draw

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

Expert analysis suggests the Leeds vs Newcastle match will likely be a low-scoring affair, with even a 0-0 result considered possible. Anthony Elanga is backed as a strong contender to score for Newcastle. Key betting odds include 3.50 for a draw, 5.75 for a halftime and fulltime draw, and 5.25 for Elanga to score at any time. The recommendation is to expect tight defense and few goals, with a draw being the favored outcome.

Leeds vs Newcastle Predictions

Both sides have been in good form, scoring in each of their last 10 matches. Newcastle are unbeaten in competitive matches this season while Leeds had lost just one match in nine before losing 6-3 away to Chelsea midweek in the League Cup.

  • Leeds are undefeated in their last 8 home matches.
  • Leeds have kept 6 clean sheets in their last 8 home games.
  • Leeds have failed to score in 2 of their last 3 home matches against Newcastle.
  • Leeds have scored in each of their last 10 matches.
  • Leeds keeper James Trafford has conceded just 2 goals in 5 matches.
  • Newcastle have scored 10 goals in their last 5 matches.
  • Newcastle have won 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Newcastle have won their last 3 matches on the road.
  • Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga has scored 2 goals in 3 Premier League matches.

Head-to-Head

Newcastle and Leeds have drawn four of their last six matches, with Newcastle winning the other two matches. The two sides have scored a combined two goals or less in four of their last six clashes.

Leeds Form

Leeds return to Premier League action determined to put Wednesday’s chaotic 6-3 League Cup defeat at Chelsea behind them. Daniel Farke rotated heavily at Stamford Bridge, so Monday’s side should look much more like the team that has collected five points from its opening three league matches.

Leeds beat Nottingham Forest before drawing with Brentford and Brighton, conceding only twice across those fixtures. Their home record is another encouraging factor, with nine of last season’s 11 league victories coming at Elland Road. The Whites have lost just once in their last 12 Premier League games and have scored in every competitive match this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin also carries an impressive personal record against Newcastle, having scored seven Premier League goals against them. Leeds have struggled against the Magpies recently, however, going six league meetings without victory, so Farke’s side will need another disciplined display to protect their unbeaten league start.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle have started positively under new manager Matthias Jaissle, remaining unbeaten through their opening five competitive matches. Five Premier League points have come from a draw with Liverpool, victory at Tottenham and a comeback 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, while League Cup wins over West Brom and Millwall have maintained their momentum.

The Magpies have shown plenty of attacking efficiency, scoring at least twice in each of their league matches, although their conversion rate has arguably flattered their underlying numbers. Newcastle’s bigger concern is away form: they lost 10 of 19 Premier League road matches last season and have won only five of their last 20 away league fixtures.

Victory at Tottenham in their first trip this term offers encouragement. Newcastle are unbeaten in six Premier League meetings with Leeds and produced a remarkable late recovery to win 4-3 when these teams last met at St James’ Park.

Leeds vs Newcastle Team News & Squads

Leeds remain without centre-back Joe Rodon, who faces several weeks out with a thigh injury, while Mateo Joseph continues his recovery from an ACL problem. Ilia Gruev could return after a knee issue.

Newcastle are missing Dan Burn, Joelinton and William Osula, while Amar Dedic is doubtful after suffering hamstring discomfort against Millwall. Tino Livramento is available again and could replace Dedic, while goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen may also return.

Leeds (predicted XI): Trafford; Justin, Muharemovic, Elvedi; Bogle, Stach, Tanaka, Ampadu, Gudmundsson; Calvert-Lewin, Okafor.

Newcastle (predicted XI): Hornicek; Livramento, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Gonzalez, Miley; Elanga, Willock, Barnes; Wissa.

Verdict

I am also backing Anthony Elanga to score for Newcastle. I’m backing a low-scoring draw, although a 0-0 scoreline looks a strong possibility.
