The 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa kicked off on 26 February with the final taking place on 8 May.

The competition is played between the five New Zealand Super Rugby teams over a 10-week period. The entire competition is played in New Zealand.

The Crusaders won the inaugural Super Rugby Aotearoa in 2020 and are favourites at 2.10 to defend their title.

Last season the Auckland Blues enjoyed their best season over the last decade and will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds. The Hurricanes can never be discounted.

The Chiefs struggled in their first season under Warren Gatland in 2020 along with the Highlanders who finished bottom in 2020.

Super Rugby Aotearoa Format

Much like the Super Rugby AU in Australia, each team will play the other twice on a home and away basis.

The one difference in Super Rugby Aotearoa is that the top two teams at the end of the round robin stage compete in the final. The team who tops the table plays host.

There is no playoff between the second and third placed teams.
