Waratahs vs Brumbies Predictions

The Waratahs have been incredibly poor so far this season, with some big losses really rubbing salt into their wounds. After going down 61-10 to the Brumbies in round two, I'm tipping the Brumbies to cover the -19 handicap and then some.

  • Brumbies have won by 33, 27 & 51 points in 3 of their last 4 matches against the Waratahs.
  • Brumbies have won their last 6 matches against the Waratahs.
  • Brumbies have a +96 points difference after 5 matches.
  • Brumbies beat the Waratahs 61-10 in their last match.
  • Waratahs have lost their last 5 matches by 34, 51, 4, 19 & 32 points.
  • Waratahs have a -140 points difference after 5 matches.

Head to Head

Brumbies have won their last six meetings with the Waratahs.

Their last encounter ended in a 61-10 victory for the Brumbies in round two of this year’s competition.

Waratahs Form

The Waratahs are enduring a torrid season in Super Rugby AU. They are bottom of the table with just one point, a losing bonus point they got against the Western Force.

Over their five matches, the Waratahs have only managed to score six tries while conceding 26. Their points difference of -140 in five matches does not make for pretty reading.

The Tahs’ have been hammered one week after the next this season. They began the season with a 41-7 defeat to the Reds before being smashed 61-10 by the Brumbies.

There was some improvement in a 20-16 home defeat to the Western Force in round three but that didn’t last long. After a bye in week four they went down 33-14 to the Rebels and then suffered a 46-14 defeat to the Reds at home last weekend.

Waratahs Injuries & Team News

Captain Jake Gordon makes his return to the Waratahs side after suffering an injury in round one. That is the only change in the backline.

In the second-row, Jeremy Williams and Max Douglas come in for the injured Sam Caird and Sam Wykes.

Brumbies Form

The Brumbies are on course to defend their Super Rugby AU title although they sit second on the table. It is a tight battle for top spot with the Reds but it would seem that they will be the top two again.

The season began with three successive victories over the Western Force, Waratahs and Rebels before they went down 40-28 to the Reds. That defeat will still hurt considering that they led for almost the entire game.

Despite the disappointment, the Brumbies bounced back to beat the Western Force 42-14 last weekend. It was another superb display by the Canberra-based outfit as they dismantled the opposition forward pack.

Brumbies Injuries & Team News

The Brumbies were expected to rest a couple players this weekend but they have mostly stuck with their first choice lineup.

Folau Fainga’a who had a try disallowed last week, will be licking his lips at the opportunities that await him in this fixture. Nick White and Noah Lolesio also continue as a halfback pairing, a pairing we may see on international duty later this season.

Verdict

The Brumbies destroyed the Waratahs 61-10 earlier in the campaign. I'm tipping the Brumbies to smash the -19 handicap in Sydney. Folau Fainga'a is a machine and should be looked at in the try market when available for selection.
