Kenilworth has a great spread of races on Wednesday, with some strong favourites as well as some tight finishes predicted (Getty Images).

Race 2 – Over My Shoulder (1)

A big field of 12 runners offers little competition for Over My Shoulder, the 3-yr-old bay filly who is making her professional debut. From the Ruperts’ Drakenstein stud and out of Vercingetorix and Sempre Libre, she will be run by the highly successful Gavin Lerena, who has 702 wins from 3,213 career starts.

Over My Shoulder’s only real challenge is likely to come from Sabre Wing (3.50). The 3-yr-old bay filly made her debut 17 days ago, claiming third place after a strong sprint finish to sneak into a podium place, but I’m backing the Drakenstein damsel to claim a debut win.

Race 4 – Odds And Even (2)

Odds And Even is backed to the hilt to run away with Race 4. The 3-yr-old bay filly has run a powerful 4-2-2 finishes in her last three races after a 70-day break. There are no other previous race winners in the field of 12, with only Macro Gravity (7.50) having a Top 3 place.

Ntibindi is a 4-yr-old bay filly who has run 4-4 in her last two runs, while What The Fluff (13.00) has run a disappointing 6-5-7 in her three career starts, but she has had a 72-day break so the freshness in her legs could throw her up as a surprise winner.

Race 5 – Hampstead Heath (5)

Hampstead Heath has 11 Top 3 finishes in her 27-race career, including three wins. The 6-yr-old bay mare won her last race 44 days ago at Kenilworth in a seven-horse field after an iffy spell on the track. Her previous seven runs saw her place 3-6-6-3-3-7-6 before claiming her win at Kenilworth.

Amayah (4.00) is a strong challenger who won back-to-back races at the start of the year, but a 63-day break saw her return to the track with a seventh place finish, so it’s hard to gauge her current legs. Una The Unicorn is listed at 5.50 in the odds but has been inconsistent since her one career win back in April last year. She has had a total of 373 days of rest since that win, placing 4-14-7-9-4.

Money Extractor (17.00) won her last race but she’s a real roller-coaster of a mare. Her last nine runs have seen her place 2-6-9-1-3-5-9-12-1… so she’s a tough nut to crack. Great odds, though…

Race 7 – Cantona (3)

The second last race of the day is stinker for punters, with a strong field with four recent winners among the field of eight. Six of the runners have odds between 4.50 and 6.50, with Vercicat and Avignon sharing the lowest odds of 4.50.

I’m backing Cantona, a 4-yr-old bay filly who has had her hooves up for 139 days and should be fit and firing. She started her career with a second place in January this year, followed by a first win less than a month later, with both runs coming at Kenilworth.

She slipped up with an 11th place and a fifth place in her next two races, but she’s been rested and revived over the last four-and-a-bit months so I’m backing her to pick up win number two.
