Sunrisers Leeds vs London Spirit The Hundred Predictions - Sunrisers to leap up the table with win over Spirit

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

Sunrisers Leeds head into the match as favorites, largely due to the impressive form of openers Jonny Bairstow and Mitchell Marsh. Both are expected to contribute significant runs. On the bowling front, Jamie Overton and Brydon Carse are top picks to take over 1.5 wickets each, highlighting their potential match impact. The recommendation is to watch these key players closely, as they are likely to play pivotal roles in determining the outcome.

  • Sunrisers Leeds fell to the Rockets by five runs to end their two-match win streak.
  • The London Spirit have lost three of their four matches this season.
  • The pitch at Headingley will offer assistance for bat and ball, but the consistent bounce should see batters playing with confidence to post scores over 180.

Sunrisers Leeds vs London Spirit Predictions

The Sunrisers are in a strong position for the playoffs but a win is important to solidify their claims. The Spirit are still in with a shout but a defeat will leave them teetering on the edge.

  • Sunrisers Leeds’ Mitchell Marsh has scored 60, 41, 69, 63 & 41 in his last 5 matches.
  • Sunrisers Leeds’ Harry Brook has scores of 42* & 46 in his last 2 innings.
  • Sunrisers Leeds’ Brydon Carse has taken 2/18, 1/47 & 2/20 in his last 4 matches.
  • London Spirit’s Jonny Bairstow has scored 32, 23 & 56 in his last 5 knocks.
  • London Spirit’s Lhuan-dre Pretorius has scores of 24 & 64 in his last 3 innings.
  • London Spirit’s Jamie Overton has taken 7 wickets in 5 matches.

Head-to-Head

Sunrisers Leeds have won three and lost two of their last five matches matches against the London Spirit in The Hundred. The Sunrisers have won the last two on the bounce.

Sunrisers Leeds Form

Sunrisers Leeds are sixth on the table with two wins and two defeats, and they come into this match after a narrow five-run loss to Trent Rockets.

Their chase of 147 started poorly when Ryan Rickelton fell early, but Mitchell Marsh and Zak Crawley steadied the innings. Marsh made 41 off 35 balls, while Crawley added 26 from 16 deliveries. Harry Brook then gave Leeds real hope with a fluent 46, but his dismissal came at a crucial stage and shifted the pressure back onto the lower order.

Dan Lawrence and Tom Alsop played some attacking strokes late on, but Leeds could not quite finish the job and ended five runs short.

Earlier, Trent Rockets had posted 146/4 from their 100 balls. Finn Allen was removed cheaply by Brydon Carse, but Ben Duckett continued his strong form with 64 from 47 deliveries. Aneurin Donald added late power with 40 off just 19 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. However, Tim David struggled to accelerate, and the Rockets finished short of the 160-plus total they had looked capable of reaching.

Mitchell Marsh remains Leeds’ leading run-scorer in The Hundred Men’s competition with 214 runs, while Nathan Ellis has been their top wicket-taker with five wickets.

London Spirit Form

London Spirit are seventh on the points table with one win and three defeats, and their campaign needs a quick turnaround.

They suffered a five-wicket loss to Southern Brave in their previous match after being bowled out for just 105. Jonny Bairstow was the only major contributor, making 56 off 43 balls, but Lhuan-dre Pretorius fell cheaply and the rest of the batting line-up offered little support.

Marcus Stoinis did the main damage for Southern Brave, taking 3/17 as London Spirit were dismissed for a below-par total.

The chase briefly gave Spirit some hope when Southern Brave lost early wickets, but Jamie Smith and David Miller steadied the innings. Smith made 36 off 22 balls, while Miller struck 39 from 28 deliveries to guide Brave home with five wickets in hand.

Liam Livingstone has been London Spirit’s leading batter this season with 123 runs, while David Willey tops their bowling charts with four wickets. Both will need to play important roles if Spirit are to climb away from the lower end of the table.

Team news

The London Spirit have scored over 135 just twice this season and the Sunrisers will be looking to make inroad into their top order.

Sunrisers Leeds (possible XI): Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley (c), Dan Lawrence, Tom Alsop, Matthew Revis, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Nathan Ellis, Abrar Ahmed.

London Spirit (possible XI): Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone (capt), Dewald Brevis, James Coles, James Rew, David Willey, Jamie Overton, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa, Adam Milne.

Verdict

Sunrisers Leeds are the strong favourites for the win, with openers Jonny Bairstow and Mitchell Marsh looking strong to score well for their sides. Jamie Overton and Brydon Carse are my picks to perform with the ball for both sides.
