Diaval is a strong favourite in Race 2 after Rocco’s Peace was scratched.
Jazz Festival looks strong for the win in a field without many strong challengers.
Clair De Lune will be pushed by Averni Princess but should still prevail in Race 8.

Race 2 – Diaval (2)

Rocco’s Peace has had just three runs since his debut in February this year and had shown improvement. The 3-yr-old bay colt started by placing 11th in a field of 16, followed by a solid fourth place in a nine-horse race. An 89-day break saw him nab his first Top 3 placing on 22 July.

However, he was scratched from the race on Saturday morning, leaving the door open for Diaval to step up as the race favourite. The 3-yr-old bay gelding is a newcomer to the track and untested but it highly rated out of Sterling Miller’s stable. Hello Handsome (9.00) is the next best rated runner in the field despite also running his first race.

Race 3 – Hop Hop Spinnekop (6)

Hop Hop Spinnekop started with finishing 7/13 and 13/14, but a 128-day break brought the 4-yr-old bay filly the focus and fresh legs needed for a strong run of 4-1-3-2, so I’m happy to back her for a second career win.

Hop Hop Spinnekop faces stiff opposition in the seven-horse field, with all but one of her challengers having won in their last six races. Vans Spirit (4.50) has run 2-4-1-2-2 and Gold Gold Baby (6.50) has had a stormer, placing 3-1-2-5-1. Princess Trippi isn’t low on the odds at 8.50 but has had a great lead into Sunday with finishes of 3-3-2-3-1, so it’s a tough race to call.

Race 6 – Jazz Festival (5)

Jockey: Keagan De Melo

Trainer: Mark Dixon

Jazz Festival is a super-experienced 7-yr-old chestnut gelding with 36 races under his belt, but his Top 3 finish ratio is just 12/36, although he has four wins to his credit. His form has been up and down, running 11-2-2-9-3-2-4-6-7 in the last year, but the field of 11 for this race lacks any really strong competition.

Jazz Festival’s biggest rival for the win is Run To Rio (4.35) who has run 5-4-3-3-4 coming into Scotsville Sunday, but my hat is in Jazz Festival’s ring.

Race 8 – Clair De Lune (11)

Jockey: Keagan De Melo

Trainer: J. S. Snaith

Sunday’s programme ends with a 12-horse race which Clair De Lune should have the legs to win, but the 4-yr-old bay filly has a few strong opponents to outlast. Clair De Lune has run 2-2-3-2 coming into Sunday.

Royal Crest has high odds of 13.00 despite good form (2-5-2-2-1), but Averni Princess (6.50) is on a stormer, placing 1-1-7-1-1. The Princess hasn’t had a break since September last year, so my sense is she might be running on fumes, which is why I’m singing the Clair De Lune tune.
