Last updated: 1 hour ago

With fierce competition across eight races at the Vaal this Thursday, key selections include Corrupt (Race 1), Korcula (Race 6), and One State (Race 8) as strong contenders for victories. Tempranillo also features as a promising pick. Bettors are advised to focus on these runners, who present solid winning chances based on their form and odds. Highlights include Corrupt at 2.60, Korcula at 4.0, and One State at 4.0, providing value for punters seeking profitable bets.

  • Corrupt will have his work cut out for him with strong opposition expected from Green Machine and Samuel Sharpe in Race 1.
  • Korcula has the power to take hold of Race 4 with a strong finish.
  • One State should have Race 8 in the bag despite some tight odds.
  • There are eight races at Vaal racetrack on Thursday starting at 12:40 SAST.

Best Bet of the Day - Vaal racetrack

Race 1 – Corrupt (2)

Jockey: K De Melo
Trainer: Mike/mathe Kock
The 5-yr-old bay gelding Corrupt looks a shoe-in to take Race 1, with eight Top 3 places in his 14 career starts, including four wins. Corrupt comes into the race on the back of a strong run of 3-1-1, so the Wernars family will be super-positive for Thursday.

Corrupt has just five other runners to leave in his dust, although Green Machine (2.50) won’t be a pushover. Green Machine has been on a heater, placing 2-1-1-7-2 in his last five races. Samuel Sharpe (5.00) has also been in form, running 3-2-1-2-5 ahead of this race.

Race 4 – Tempranillo (7)

Jockey: K De Melo
Trainer: Johan J Vuuren
Tempranillo is a 4-yr-old grey filly with two career wins and a strong run of form in her last six outings, albeit no wins in that run. She’s picked off 2-3-6-4-2-3 placings since October 2025 and should be ready to add to her wins cabinet.

Tempranillo will be pushed hard by Winter Rainfall, a 6-yr-old bay mare who has had 98 days away from the track and has 12 Top 3 placings in 29 career starts. Winter has been on a good streak since October 2025, running 2-2-3-4-2-3-6, although like race favourite Tempranillo there will be a big hunger for that long-awaited next win.

Race 6 – Korcula (6)

Jockey: Kyle Strydom
Trainer: Fanie Bronkhorst
Korcula is a real winner on the track, despite not having secured a career win to date. The 4-yr-old bay filly has seven Top 3 finishes under her saddle from just nine starts, which is an amazing record.

That elusive first win looked agonisingly close in her last run, where she pushed the leader hard in a thrilling finish, albeit slipping back a length-plus at the end. She has the legs and the lungs to burst through for the win, and I’m backing her to pull it off on Thursday.

Epidaurus (3.25) is her big threat, though, the 4-yr-old bay gelding running 2-2-2-3 in his last four outings.

Race 8 – One State (8)

Jockey: M Yeni
Trainer: Tony Peter
The 3-yr-old chestnut gelding One State claimed his first Top 3 finish just 12 days ago at Turffontein in a field of seven runners. He has been carefully managed, finishing fourth in December before a 120-day break, following that up with another fourth place finished and a 97-day break. That led to his third-placing in his last race, and with another race hot on its heels that might be what this sprinter needs to hit the finish line first.

Freestyle Dance (3.75) and Campo Formio (4.00) are slated as One State’s challengers for the tape, but both of those horses have had just two career runs and share one Top 3 finish between them, so I’m confident that the chestnut gelding is in for a first win on Thursday.

Verdict

There is stiff competition in the eight races at the Vaal, but we’re backing Corrupt, Tempranillo, Korcula and One State to clinch hard-fought wins on Thursday.
