The Lions had a very strong 2024 Currie Cup season and arguably should have won the tournament. However, in the final, they made a critical error in the final minute which allowed the Sharks to snatch the game with the last kick of the game.

Coming into this season, the Lions are again among the favourites to challenge for the title. They showed that last week in their round one fixture.

In a repeat of the 2024 final, the Lions got their revenge, thrashing the Sharks 46-5 at home. They dominated from the first whistle of the match and arguably should have own by a greater margin.

Golden Lions Injuries & Team News

There could be a few rotational changes for the Lions after a convincing win. However, they will want to put in a strong performance in their first home game of the season.

Western Province Form

Western Province are the most successful Currie Cup team in history but they’ve hardly been challenging for the last few seasons. Off field issues have not really allowed them to build the squad depth required to really put out a good side in the Currie Cup whilst keeping their URC players rested.

Last week, in their round one fixture at home to the Bulls, Province went into the game as favourites. However, while it was tight at times, they never really looked capable of beating the Bulls.

In the end, the Blue Bulls won the derby 48-23 in Cape Town, picking up a bonus point against the archrivals.

Western Province Injuries & Team News

Western Province are likely to look to make a few changes this weekend. Last weekend simply wasn’t good enough.
