Griquas vs Sharks Predictions

Griquas have looked very strong at home over the last two weeks. I certainly think they will go three from three on Friday, but I do think the Sharks can get within the 21.5 handicap.

  • Griquas have won their last 2 matches.
  • Griquas won their last home match against the Sharks.
  • Sharks have lost their last 3 matches.
  • Sharks have lost their last 2 away matches by 41 & 64 points.

Head to Head

The Sharks beat Griquas 40-21 at home last season but lost 34-31 in Kimberley.

Griquas Form

Griquas have done well to bounce back from their opening day defeat to win their next two. They will be looking for a third win on the bounce to put them into the top four.

In round one, Griquas fell short against the Pumas in Nelspruit but won in round two against Boland at home. In an exciting contest, Griquas won 48-39 in Kimberley.

Last weekend, again at home, Griquas thumped Western Province 47-17. It was a dominant performance from the hosts and proved again why they are such a feared side on home soil.

Griquas Team News

Griquas may look to rest a few players as we enter round four. Players will need to be kept fresh, but keeping their home form will be the main priority.

Sharks Form

The Sharks have been woeful this season to say the least. They are currently at the bottom of the table with three losses in three games.

On the opening weekend, the defending Currie Cup champions were outplayed by the Lions in Johannesburg, losing the game 46-5. It was worse at Loftus a week later as the Bulls thrashed them 64-0.

A vastly improved performance last week in their first home game saw the Sharks go down 7-5 to the Cheetahs. It was a poor spectacle of rugby, but it should still give the young Sharks squad some confidence.

Sharks Team News

It is a very young Sharks squad this season, but they will learn and improve as the season goes on. I expect them to at the very least be competitive on Friday night.

Verdict

I am backing the Sharks to get within 21.5 points of Griquas.
