Argentina vs New Zealand Predictions - Argentina to challenge All Blacks for 80 minutes

Argentina is set to face New Zealand in a highly anticipated rugby match. Historically, Argentina has yet to secure a home victory against the All Blacks, but they will look to change that despite some inconsistency in form and key player absences, such as Matias Moroni and Tomas Lavanini. Meanwhile, New Zealand is navigating their own challenges with a series of competitive performances that have yet to establish their dominance. Crucial decisions by coach Scott Robertson and the team's lineup will influence the outcomes of this exciting matchup.

Argentina vs New Zealand Predictions

This is a tough one to call with both sides showing bits of inconsistency. While Argentina have never won at home against the All Blacks, perhaps the time is right for them to do it. I am backing the hosts to get within 7.5 points and perhaps cause an upset.

  • New Zealand have won 4 of their last 5 matches against Argentina.

Head to Head

New Zealand have won four of their last five against Argentina. Last season, in two matches, they each won one with Argentina taking the first game 38-30 and the All Blacks 42-10 in the second.

Interestingly, since 2020, Argentina have beaten the All Blacks three times but have never won against the men in black at home.

Argentina Form

Argentina have a very strong group of players but inconsistency has cost them dearly in recent times. It has been on show again this season.

Before the British & Irish Lions departed Dublin for Australia in June, they played Argentina, a game Los Pumas won 28-24. Then the Argentines hosted England in a two-match series, losing both games – 35-12 and 22-17.

One must consider that it was an England team missing most of their first-choice players to the Lions, however, Argentina also experimented in those two fixtures.

Thereafter, Los Pumas thrashed Uruguay 52-17. Argentina will certainly hope for another strong Rugby Championship after beating all three teams in 2024.

Argentina Team News

Argentina are missing some experienced players with Matias Maroni, Facundo Isa and Tomas Lavanini all ruled out.  Gonzalo Bertranou is also out with injuryalong with Benjamin Grondona, Emiliano Boffelli and Thomas Gallo.

The positive for Los Pumas is the inclusion of Juan Cruz Mallia, Santiago Chocobares, Marcos Kremer, Bautista Delguy and Matteo Carreras, all of whom missed the England tour.

New Zealand Form

It is not quite clear where New Zealand are at the moment as a team. They are certainly still among the best in the world, but their real quality hasn’t been visible consistently in 2024 and 2025 thus far.

The All Blacks still managed a second-place finish in the 2024 Rugby Championship, losing twice to South Africa away and once to Argentina at home. On their tour of Europe at the end of the year, New Zealand beat England, Ireland and Italy and lost by a point to France.

In July, New Zealand hosted France in a three-match series, one marred by the fact that France sent over a largely second and third choice side. The All Blacks won the series 3-0 but didn’t have it all their own way.

The first game saw the hosts win 31-27 before a commanding 43-17 victory. In the final test, one that France led for large parts, New Zealand won 29-19.

New Zealand Team News

As always, Scott Robertson has a few big calls to make. One suspects that Beauden Barret will hold onto the flyhalf jersey ahead of Damian McKenzie.
